Fats Domino - My Blue Heaven: The Best of Fats Domino, Vol. 1 [EMI, 1990]: X (X)

De-shelved in 2022 as an early CD-era compilation of #oldies/neworleans. Considered upgrading to the updated 2002 release Fats Domino Jukebox: 20 Greatest Hits the Way You Originally Heard Them (which I did stream three times) but couldn't get excited about the presentation. The 2007 release Greatest Hits: Walking to New Orleans tempted me even more, but with #oldies/neworleans like this, it's a little too much, unlike the earlier collections.

I also considered Fats Domino: Legendary Masters Series [United Artists, 1971] (called simply Fats Domino in Christgau's first Rock Library) and The Best of Fats Domino [EMI, 1987], both of which are entries in Christgau's now-defunct Rock Libraries, and neither of them seemed like good choices. The former is a double-LP, which doesn't seem appealing to me in this case. And the latter is an even earlier CD-era release than the one under review, and all songs on that are on this one, so there's simply no reason for the earlier one anymore. Interestingly, it was a CD- and cassette-only release.

I think I'd rather just stream this artist when I want to hear him. In other words, there doesn't appear to be a physical artifact that fits into my collection at this point, but I acknowledge his greatness obviously. And finally, I should note that both Christgau and Hull give this a 10 (A+).
