De-shelved - I eventually became disenchanted with these first-generation CD comps of proto-rock and roll. Absolutely no commentary on the music, of course, just the format. Only five out of sixteen tracks are not on Legend:
"Mean Eyed Cat"
"Next in Line"
"Come in Stranger"
"Train of Love"
"So Doggone Lonesome"
The same five songs, plus "There You Go" are left off The Essential Johnny Cash 1955-1983. So either way, with one or the other (or both) of those later comps, you have all but 5 or 6 out of 18 of these tracks, which seems good enough. I did listen to those songs to see if they seemed "essential" and felt that there were not. So, Essential is obviously essential, and the only question is whether to also have Legend.
