The Itals - Rasta Philosophy: 7 (B+)

Used copies of this are going for very high prices. Since it's actually an EP, at least on vinyl (six tracks clocking in at ~23 minutes), I will skip it at 7 (B+), although it would be nice to have all 4 of their Nighthawk releases. The CD version adds the track "Jamaican Style & Dub," perhaps so that it could be nominated for a Grammy for Best Reggae Recording, which it was, although it did not win.

Clem Snide - Forever Just Beyond: liked

Outstanding track: "Roger Ebert"

Rakes - Capture/Release: liked

I like the Pitchfork reviewer's word "rote." De-shelved in 2020.

Tony Toni Tone - House of Music: 8 (A-)

Raphael Saadiq - batch review

All three of the albums to which Christgau/Hull gave an A- are 7.5 (high B+) and #r&b to me. [De-shelved in 2020]

Instant Vintage
Stone Rollin'
Jimmy Lee

I've discussed this with my friends, and we all agree that these sound very solid when they are playing but then simply disappear from memory.

Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It: 4 stars

The Black Eyed Peas - Elephunk [honorable mention]

 :-)

Iris Dement - The Way I Should: liked

I confess I'm irritated by her vocalizations. I generally give her two notches below Christgau and Hull, which means My Life is an 8 (A-). [De-shelved in 2020]

Cabaret Voltaire - Original Sound of Sheffield '78/'82: liked

"Nag Nag Nag" is obviously a classic track.

R.E.M. - Automatic for the People [liked]

:-) [I hate the song "Everybody Hurts" on every level, and for years panned this album probably over-emphasizing how bad the rest of it is. It's not all bad, and I will reluctantly keep this since so many seem to love it.]

Gary Wilson - You Think You Really Know Me [honorable mention]

 :-)

DJ Food/DJ Cheeba/DJ Moneyshot - Caught in the Middle of a 3-Way Mix: 7 (B+)

Mixtape re: Paul's Boutique. No physicals. Another item of interest with respect to PB: Paul's Boutique: A Visual Companion.
