The Velvet Underground - The Complete Matrix Tapes: 3.5 stars

Only 22 non-repeated songs. They should have picked the best of the repeats and made a great 2CD set. As it is, I’m not springing outrageous used prices for a bloated collection. Some of these tracks are on the Quine Tapes and CDs 5 and 6 of the VU Super Deluxe. I’m guessing the latter are the best way to hear the Matrix performances now, but not springing for a 6 CD set just to get them. I will give them a listen or two though. I'll also pull out the 1969 album and rate that as well, and then I'll be done with these particular performances.
